The Cuban 8 is the final maneuver taught in the Sunrise Basic Aerobatic course and is by far the most complex, requiring concentration to assure precison of form, airspeed and altitude.
By placing a half roll on each of the descending 45° lines, the pilot is able to fly a horizontal figure 8 without performing an outside loop. This makes the maneuver ideal for a basic course, and undoubtedly explains the reasoning behind its initial development (the origin of the name is the subject of several conflicting sagas).
